What is Mindfulness Therapy?

And how can it help me?

The short answer is YES, Mindfulness can help. Mindfulness is a technique you can learn quite easily. It involves making a special effort to notice what's happening in the present moment (in your mind, body and surroundings) – but without judging anything. It has roots in Buddhism and meditation, but you don't have to be spiritual, or have any particular beliefs, to try it.

It aims to help you become:

  • more self-aware.

  • calmer and less stressed.

  • more able to choose how to respond to your thoughts and feelings.

  • more able to cope with difficult or unhelpful thoughts.

  • kinder towards yourself.

Mindfulness can be use for many conditions such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders. You might be interested in my page on Mindful Eating. Just by slowing down and focusing on what is in front of you can make all the difference to your eating habits.

Many people find practicing mindfulness helps them manage their day-to-day well-being. You can practice mindfulness anywhere at anytime. It is not a quick fix, and like everything it works to differing degrees at different times for everyone.
